This study highlights the strategic importance of the Energy Sector in Egypt. It identifies its challenges, opportunities and driving forces, mainly the technological R&D and the oil prices. The study provides an assessment of the energy resources available to meet the energy requirements, and examines the structural changes of the energy sector in Egypt (energy reserves, production and consumption). For each source of energy,the study gives comparative analysis during the period (1999/2000-2005/2006). In addition, more emphasis is given to the analysis of the international oil prices during (1970-2007) and the pricing mechanism. As well, the study highlights the Arab, African and International Cooperation in the field of energy, with more emphasis on the effective role of the Organization for Arab Prtroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), the Organization for Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), and the International Energy Agency (IEA).
