The study addresses the topic of raw cotton through three interrelated main axes. It begins with an introductory chapter on raw cotton production, examining the nature of the product and its production conditions, the geographical distribution of world production, cultivated areas and yields, as well as projections of future supply up to 1985 and key conclusions. It then moves to an analysis of demand for raw cotton, including an introductory overview, a study of inter-fiber competition, and the geographical distribution of global mill consumption, concluding with analytical findings. The study concludes this part with an examination of international trade in raw cotton, highlighting the share of production entering world trade, the importance of cotton exports for developing countries, the geographical distribution of global exports and imports, and the principal markets and exporting countries, thus providing a comprehensive perspective on the dynamics of cotton production, consumption, and trade at the international level.
In addition, the study offers a comprehensive analysis of the position of developing countries within the international cotton economy. It begins by examining the major exporting and importing countries, then reviews international cotton prices. Chapter Four focuses on the structure of control over cotton production, trade, and marketing, including the role of fibers and textile industries.
