There is no doubt that industry is the major engine for development, due to its strong forward and backward linkages. Industry has a great role to play reactivating growth of the Egyptian economy in the medium and long run. Interest the industrial sector is one of the first priorities that play an important role in enlarging productive base and building a balanced economy that depends on utilizing material and human local resources in order to achieve real economic growth. The major objective of this study is to shed light on the development role of industrial areas in developing the Egyptian governorates in general, and the Suez Canal region in particular. Also, it studies the aspects of strength and weakness; opportunities and challenges that hinder the success of some industrial regions and achieving the targeted objectives. The industrial zones have a major role to play in attracting investments, creating job opportunities and providing local needs and exports.
