This study reviewed the evolution of systems of national accounts (SNA) developed by UN leading to SNA 2008, and the characteristics of national accounts in Egypt. Results of the assessment show that Egypt is committed to international standards in compiling national accounts in terms of definitions and compiling methods. However national accounts suffer from some problems that affect its quality. The main problem lies in inputs of statistics, in terms of the scope of coverage, price indices and inadequacy of some statistics. The other problem relates to the flow of data in details and in timely manner between statistics units and units responsible for compiling national accounts.
