The purpose of this study is to investigate a number of issues related to inflation in general, and to inflation targeting in particular, through upgrading knowledge concerning the causes of inflation, and the relations between inflation, output growth and employment, to help in formulating some hypotheses regarding inflation determinants and the inflation- output or employment trade- off in Egypt. It also aims to examine the reasons of dissatisfaction with the main anchors for monetary policy which have eventually led to the adoption of inflation targeting in a growing number of countries. The study specified the prerequisites for successful operation of inflation targeting, and attempted to explore the chances of satisfying those prerequisites in Egypt and exploring alternative measures of inflation, and the best measure that could be used in context of inflation targeting. An attempt was made to assess the sensitivity of the CPI to changes in the weights of its components, and to verify the incidence of inflation across different expenditure brackets in Egypt. 2018-07-30T11:31:56Z 2018-07-30T11:31:56Z 2007.
