This study discusses "Liquidity Preference and Capital Formation in Underdeveloped Countries", highlighting how patterns of private wealth holding can hinder productive capital accumulation. It emphasizes the tendency of individuals to hold assets like gold, land, residential buildings, valuable consumer goods, and foreign currency rather than investing in productive assets. The paper argues that this behavior stems from a high preference for liquidity due to unstable political, social, and economic conditions. In such economies, highly liquid assets substitute the role that securities play in developed countries. The demand for these assets is driven by precautionary and speculative motives.
